The year is drawing to a close, and many of us are counting down the days to a well-deserved holiday break. There’s a special kind of anticipation in the air—schools are closing, travel plans are being finalised, and the energy shifts to celebration, rest, and togetherness.
The closing of a year signals more than just the passing of time. It’s a chance to reflect on the goals we set, the milestones we reached, and the challenges we overcame. It’s also a time to pause, breathe, and look forward to what lies ahead as we step into a brand new year.
At Random Harvest Indigenous Nursery and B&B accommodation in Honeydew, Muldersdrift, the festive season is always a special time. This year, we’ve once again embraced our tradition of decorating our indigenous Christmas tree, Commiphora mollis (Corkwood), for the birds.
Watching the birds flit excitedly around the tree as they enjoy the treats we've put out for them is one of the true joys of the season. Their activity brings the tree to life and reminds us that Christmas magic isn’t just for people—it’s for nature too.
In our Gazebo, you’ll find another Christmas tree, lovingly decorated with Indigenous Seed Pod Decorations and twinkling Christmas lights. This tree brings a more peaceful, reflective beauty to the space, in contrast to the bustling energy of the birds' tree. It’s become a beautiful visual reminder that there are many ways to celebrate—both festive and serene.
We warmly invite you to visit and soak in the atmosphere. Bring your children to experience a Christmas that is rooted in nature and creativity. You may even leave with some ideas for using indigenous elements in your own festive décor.
Throughout the holiday season, Random Harvest comes alive with activity. From families exploring our indigenous nursery to children delighting in nature-based play, there’s something special in the air.
We’ve created a space that is not only peaceful and welcoming but also full of opportunities for learning, discovery, and fun. Whether you’re here to browse our plants, enjoy a cup of coffee under the trees, or simply stroll through the gardens, we hope our nursery becomes part of your year-end traditions.
We offer a range of enjoyable activities for children over the holiday period—perfect for those looking to entertain little ones in a wholesome, outdoor setting.
At our Random Harvest Country Cottages and Indigenous Nursery, 2016 brought many blessings. It’s been a year of growth and gratitude, and we’re incredibly thankful for the community that surrounds us.
On behalf of every single staff member at Random Harvest, we extend our warmest wishes to you and your loved ones this festive season. May your holidays be safe, joyful, and filled with meaning.
We’d like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank each and every one of our loyal customers. Your support, kindness, and encouragement throughout the year continue to inspire and motivate us.
Looking back, we are humbled by how many of you have helped shape our business—through feedback, shared enthusiasm for indigenous plants, and simply choosing to return to us time and again.
As we celebrate and wind down, it’s important to keep in mind that the festive season isn’t easy for everyone. Many face the holidays hungry, homeless, or alone.
We encourage everyone to share generously, wherever possible. A meal, a kind word, a small act of giving—these can change someone’s entire season, or even their life.
Let’s make this time of year not only about celebration, but about compassion.
Thank you for being part of our journey. We look forward to welcoming you back in the new year, and to continuing our shared passion for greener gardens and a more indigenous way of living.
Here’s to rest, reflection, and renewal. To meaningful moments, fresh ideas, and another year of growing together.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all of us at Random Harvest.
To greener gardens and a more indigenous way of living!
